Hundreds of kids swept through the sun-drenched grass at River View Park in Buellton on April 7, hunting for thousands of colorful eggs as part of the 23rd annual Easter Eggstravaganza.
The wild scramble lasted all but 30 seconds.
“I think this was our biggest turnout ever,” said Kyle Abello, event director and Buellton’s recreation coordinator. “There’s nothing better than to see the joy on all the kids’ faces as they scramble to pick up all the eggs.”
At 7:30 a.m., more than 10,000 eggs were strewn across four fenced-off park fields. The eggs came from National Entertainment Technologies Inc., located in Marshfield, Mo., which employs disabled adults to assemble the eggs. Some of the eggs contained golden tickets that were exchanged for prizes, including large Easter bunny baskets.
The event included games and crafts, photos with the Easter bunny, face-painting, a petting zoo and music by the Santa Ynez Valley Jazz Band.
