The Rotary Central Coaster car event blanketed the 500-600 blocks of Buellton’s Avenue of Flags on June 9, featuring hot rods, customs, sports cars, muscle cars, antiques, classics, race cars, and a 1928 Paddy Wagon flying the Sheriff’s Department colors. The event’s motto was, “If it makes noise, vibrates and has the potential to leak oil…we love it!” Local businesses partook of the non-judged car show. Olivera’s Auto Repair and Towing converted into a 1950s-style hot rod hangout with the period’s signage, gas pumps as well as service personnel in white uniforms, caps and bow ties. Ellen’s Café changed up its menus to reflect the fare of the 50s and 60s, and waitresses wore poodle skirts. jfoster@syvjournal.com
