Book saleThe Solvang Library volunteers will be holding its Summer Book Sale on Friday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the same time Saturday, June 23, at 1745 Mission Drive in Solvang.

CowpunchingThe documentary titled Texas Cowpuncher: Vaquero Eight is slated for Saturday, June 23, at the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the film starts at 6 p.m.
Jazz under the StarsThe 14th year of “Jazz under the Stars” at The Vineyard House restaurant in Santa Ynez. Every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30, dinner guests will enjoy the sounds of local jazz musicians.

Holiday picnicThere will be a Patriotic Picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Waller Park, Lakeside Terrace in Santa Maria. The event, sponsored by Santa Maria Valley Republicans, includes trip-tip dinners for $15 apiece; and a hot dog meal, for kids 12 and younger, for $1.

Setting up camp“Wild West” summer camp at the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum is on the horizon for two sessions June 25-29 and July 9-13. In its third year at the Historical Museum, this popular camp offers campers an opportunity to have fun while learning the crafts and culture of a bygone era. Camp sessions are a week long and geared to ages 7-11. Cost is $125 per child; snacks and beverages are provided.

Change of courseThe Copenhagen Hospitality College (CHC) has notified Allan Hancock College of a delay in implementing the culinary foundation course program scheduled to begin this September in Solvang.
A change in Denmark’s education ministry policy has resulted in certain restrictions in sending college students abroad. The culinary/hospitality internship program with CHC continues successfully, with Josefine Amtorp at Root 246 since January 2012, and other interns expected in the fall.

Pops in the VineyardThe Pops in the Vineyard concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Tres Hermanas Vineyard & Winery. The program will feature a 50-member orchestra under the baton of Maestro John Farrer performing pops music with its theme as A Salute to America. Ticket prices range from $85-$15 depending on seating and amenities. Table seating (tables of 10) options include champagne tables, premium party tables, party tables and lawn seating. Guests may bring in picnic lunches and snacks; no alcoholic beverages may be brought into the venue.

Autism nightThe Santa Barbara Zoo stays open late for two after-hour events in July: Autism Family Night is slated from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, and Special Needs is set from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19.

Treasure CollectibleThe Atterdag Village of Solvang Auxiliary is sponsoring a “Treasure Collectible” drop on Saturday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to noon in support of the Atterdag Serendipity Shoppe. You are asked to drop off your treasures at 448 Atterdag Road on the grass area in front of the Serendipity Shoppe. Auxiliary members will be there to greet you.

Chair FaireEveryone is invited to participate in the Los Alamos Chair Faire, on Saturday, July 28, a community event and fundraiser. Now in its third year, planning is underway with new attractions being added.
Entry fees are 2 chairs for $15; 4 chairs for $25, and eight chairs for $35. Winners receive gift certificates from Los Alamos merchants as prizes. Winning Art chairs will also be featured in next year’s publicity. Judges will be highly acclaimed in their field of expertise. Entry fee proceeds benefit the Olga Reed Elementary School in Los Alamos, while all earnings from sales of chairs go to the sellers.

August galaValleystock, a Santa Ynez Valley celebration, music festival and fundraiser, is slated for Live Oak Camp on Aug. 4-5. The idea grew out of a Facebook page started by an ex-Valley resident.
Currently, there are 10 bands scheduled to perform with more being added weekly. Any local musicians or groups interested in donating their talent and time to this charity event, use the contact information below. The Santa Ynez Elks will provide barbecue dinners Saturday and Sunday with a Sunday morning breakfast. Price per adult is $60, which includes admission to Live Oak (camping optional), all meals, live music and other activities. Optional pricing available (see registration form).
Money raised at Valleystock will go to benefit various SYVUHS Music and Arts Programs. Registration forms can be obtained at local businesses with the Valleystock poster, or online at http:www.syvelks.com/valleystock2012.html.
