Catfish once again get top billing, with kitties to 10 pounds weighed in at the marina. Johnsons Bay, Drakes Cove and Sweetwater all produced limit or near-limit action on cut mackerel, dough baits and chicken liver. Bass fishing was a bit tougher, but limits can still be scratched. Drop shot, jigs, creatures, cranks and blades all took fish. The early top water bite has subsided as of late, but should return when the bait gets a little tighter to shore. Crappie anglers had a slower week as well, and fishermen who caught them were tight-lipped about locations. Trout fishing took a nosedive, as only a few scattered rainbows were reported. Drifting crawlers near the dam at 50 to 60 feet was the most productive method. Bowfishing was fair early around the buoy line at the dam and in front of Clarks’. There were a few red ear and bluegill taken on mealworms in Storke flats, but overall fishing for them was on the slow side.
