Elva Ann Phillips did peacefully at her home in Santa Ynez, Calif., Aug. 29, surrounded by her family. She was born March 24, 1920, in Hardisty, Alberta, Canada. Elva was the youngest of four sisters. She moved to the Pacific Northwest at the age of 18 and married her husband Gerald Phillips in 1942. They settled in Longview, Wash., and had four children. Having a lifelong interest in healthy living, Elva owned and operated Health Food stores in Longview for many years.

Elva is survived by her four children, Gary Phillips of Vancouver, Wash., Lynn Gildred of Santa Ynez, Brian Phillips from Louisville, Ky., and Jan Phillips from Ventura, as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Gerald, in 1994.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Gildred ranch in Santa Ynez. In Lieu of Flowers friends may make donations to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara.
