Catfish have been the best bet, with many fish coming out of shallow coves with creek channels such as those of Johnson’s, Harvey’s and Clark’s. The kitties have been holding in 15 to 20 feet of water and have been taking cut mackerel readily. Bass action has tapered off, but there’s still somewhat of a topwater bite early, with the warm air temperatures, later in the day. Both largies and smallies have retreated to depths up to 30 feet. Crappie fishing has been fair, with slabs to 3 pounds reported at the marina. Small tube jigs with mealworms accounted for most of the panfish. Trouting has been on the slow side, though a handful of quality holdover fish were taken from shore near the mouth of Harvey’s. Inflated crawlers and powerbait were the best bait for the rainbows. Carp reports have been scarce due to a general lack of archers.
