The Santa Ynez Valley Pony Baseball League opened with hundreds of participants March 15.

Kids from the ages of 5 and up participated in the festivities, which included kick-off games, a presentation of colors by the Vandenberg Air Force Base Honor Guard, a raffle, a special helicopter fly-by by Steve Stafford, Studio Wings, barbecue by the Santa Ynez Fire Department, pancake breakfast by El Rancho Marketplace, and tables sponsored by Officer Steven Bennett of the CHP, On the Run and Steve’s Kettle Corn.

Vince Sagisi, a scout for the Cleveland Indians gave a short speech about the qualties he looks for in a ballplayer. The day was a great success thanks to the hard work of Cindy Maccianti and the many volunteers who helped.
