‘Dying to Live’ is Easter thesis
The
foundation of Christianity — the Resurrection of Jesus — will be celebrated
Sunday by the Ranch Church with “Dying to Live,” a service at the Solvang
Festival Theater.
The event
will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a free breakfast, according to a statement from
the church. It will be the first Easter service since Ranch Church opened last
fall.
Pastor
Rick Soto will deliver a sermon based on Biblical texts. “Jesus has come to the
valley to awaken the dead,” he said. “The days of despair are behind us, the
life of God is for us today.”
The Ranch Church is an affiliate of Calvary
Chapel. Some100 volunteers are working to put on the Easter services at the
Festival Theater, located at 420 Second Street in Solvang, and the breakfast
will be catered by El Rancho Marketplace.
Following
breakfast, the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jess McCurnin, Pat Kennedy, Lindsey Hume, Brandon Amyx and drummer Tommy Aldidge
taking part.
A
separate children’s service will be offered for youngsters aged 3-12, with
open-air classrooms erected in the nearby bank parking lot on Copenhagen. “We
want to offer the kids a fun and educational Sunday School
appearance,” McCunin said. “In addition to crafts and
games, we’ll have worship and an Easter message geared toward kids.”
The
church statement emphasized that worshipers are advised to arrive early for the
breakfast and the service to follow.
