NorCal police hunting for pot find alligator
in apartment
UNION
CITY (AP) — Police say they discovered more green than they bargained for when
a routine search for marijuana also turned up a 6-foot alligator.
Union
City Sgt. Raul Galindo said officers found the reptile in an aquarium while
searching the apartment of 30-year-old Eric Windom on Friday.
The
8-foot-long tank was partially filled with water and had a concrete platform.
Police called fish and game wardens, who said Windom did not have a permit for
the alligator.
Animal
control officers and police being advised by Oakland Zoo officials secured the
alligator and took it to the zoo, where an examination found the animal was
slightly undernourished.
Galindo
said Windom was arrested on suspicion of marijuana cultivation and possession
of a firearm and a controlled substance.
