New HS principal picked?
Former
Santa Ynez Valley Union High School Vice Principal
Suzanne Nicastro could be named the new principal of
the high school as early as April 15 at the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School
District School Board meeting.
Nicastro now serves as the Principal at
Vandenberg Middle School. The school is part of the Lompoc Unified School
District.
If
the position is offered to her, Nicastro will be no
stranger to the SYVUHS campus. During the 2005-2006 school year, she served as
one of the vice principals under Norm Clevenger. Nicastro
could not be reached for comment. Clevenger was placed on paid administrative
leave Feb. 14 by Superintendent Dr. Fred Van Leuven and the board on Feb. 19
said “no” to renewing Clevenger’s contract.
Though
the announcement has not been made public by the school board, Frank Lynch,
superintendent of the Lompoc Unified School district, said he will miss Nicastro.
“She’s
a tremendous administrator…[We] hate to see her go…She’s
going to be a wonderful high school principal,” he said. “I one day see her in
a district office position. She’s bright. She’s a good communicator, and she’s
everything you would look for in an administrator.”
Lynch
said he got word that Nicastro was applying for the
open position a while back and got final word that she was leaving immediately
following a visitation from the Santa Ynez Valley High hiring committee the
week of April 1.
“She let me know that she was going to move forward and
apply for the position,” he said.
