Dumpers
fined
MOJAVE (AP) — Kern County supervisors have fined
two companies for dumping 19 truckloads of cups, bags and baled plastic
sheeting in the desert near Mojave.
Employees at the Mojave-Rosamond landfill reported in
December that the material was being dumped nearby.
Mission Fiber Group and Western Land and Farming can cut
the $50,000 fine in half if they can prove to the county that they disposed of
the material properly in the next 30 days.
An attorney for the companies acknowledged Tuesday that
dumping the plastic violated land use laws, but said it had been removed and
shipped overseas.
