SB b’day

226 years old and counting.

Lovely as she is, the city of Santa Barbara is observing her 226th birthday this Saturday at historic El Presidio State Historic Park.

Founding Day will be celebrated starting at 11 a.m. and running until 2 p.m. Admission is free at the park, 123 Presidio de Santa Barbara St.

Events will include living history demonstrations, early California music, pottery and adobe brick making, Chumash storytelling, archaeology and a birthday cake. Also scheduled to appear is that hero of Early California, Zorro. Kids are invited to dress as Zorro and compete in a costume contest, in which prizes will be awarded.

Cost of the celebration is being funded by the Community Events and Festivals Program, using funds provided by the City of Santa Barbara in partnership with the County Arts Commission, Williams-Corbett Foundation, Towbes Foundation, and Veneco Inc.
