Law Week April 28

 

The annual celebration of “Law Week,” sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Bar Foundation, will begin on Monday with a discussion of “Human Rights v. Youth Violence: a Conflict?” at the Faulkner Gallery of the downtown Library at 7 p.m.

A free program on “The First Amendment in the Internet Age” will take place May 1 at Santa Barbara College of Law, 21 E. Victoria St., Santa Barbara.

 

A panel moderated by Craig Smith and including Judge George Eskin, media attorney Mike Cooney and journalists Jerry Roberts and Matt Kettmann will examine the effects of recent technology on freedom of speech.

As part of law week, students at area high schools have written essays on the rule of law. Winners will be announced on May 2 at 5 p.m. at Santa Barbara Superior Court, Department 3.

After recognition of the winners, the prize-winning San Marcos High School Mock Trial team will appear in the mock trial of a murder case, with Judge Thomas Anderle presiding.

“Java with the Judges” at noon April 28, at the Coffee Cat Cafe, 1201 Anacapa St. in Santa Barbara.

“Advance Health Care Directives,” a discussion at 7 p.m. at the Santa Barbara College of Law, 20 East Victoria St.

Kids Court, 5 p.m. on April 30 in Department 3 of the Superior Court, presented by Santa Barbara Legal Secretaries Association.
