Bugs
good for Ag industry
Metro — Biological control, or the use of beneficial bugs to
eat other bugs that typically damage crops is an area of study that continues
to grow.
The science is
not new. Ancient Chinese records describe the construction of bamboo runways to
help predatory ants move through citrus groves. Today there are hundreds of
mail-order companies that sell predator or parasitic beneficial insects. And
researchers all across the country are investigating how some rarely studied
predator bugs react with common pests and the eggs they lay.
