‘Dream Home’  to be raffled

Sales of raffle tickets for a $350,000 “dream home” are gathering momentum as the September drawing date nears, says a spokeswoman for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Kelly McLaughlin of St. Jude Pacific Coast Office said this week that the organization expects to reach its sales goal of 10,000 tickets. The drawing will take place on Sept. 28, and the top winner will receive the house, now under construction at Betteravia Road and Miller Street in Santa Maria.

Other prizes, valued at $1,000 or more, will also be awarded in the drawing, McLaughlin said.

They include home theater packages, a diamond pendant necklace and a connoisseur wine experience at Addamo Vineyards.

The house is being built in the Celebration subdivision. “We’ve had a tremendous team donate hours and materials to make this house a success,” said Terry Flatley, Jr., who is coordinating construction. “At the end of the day, this project really is all for the kids at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, so that keeps us centered and driving toward our goal of raising $1 million on the Central Coast.”

Free tours of the partially completed house take place on weekends, when the dwelling is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Local businesses donating materials and services to the project include API Waste Services, B&B Construction Clean-up, Cal Coast Plumbing, Hayward Lumber, Heritage Concrete, John Cravens Plaster and Drywall, Plant Earth Landscaping, Ronco Air Inc., Weyrick Lumber and Yanez Electric, along with a number of others. Rendezvous Home and Garden will provide the landscaping.

Sponsors of the giveaway include KCOY CBS 12 and Fox 11, Sunny Country 102.5, La Buena 105.1, Cat Country 96.1, Audio Video City, La Chiquita Markets, Rendezvous Home and Garden and Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

St. Jude Children’s Hospital was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and is located in Memphis, Tenn. Its mission statement says it is devoted to “finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.” St. Jude’s “freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.”

Raffle tickets for the “dream home” are available at First American Title locations, Addamo Vineyards tasting rooms, Audio Video City, the Home Builders Assn. in San Luis Obispo, Prudential California Realty in Santa Maria, and Discolandia.
