Solvang’s new logo,
featuring a windmill with a Valley landscape, was made public in Solvang Park
Sept. 10 to about 50 attendees, which included some Solvang City Council
members and city employees.
Of the almost 150 artists
vying to have their design selected by the city, Santa Barbara artist Michele
Janée’s design was chosen as the official Solvang Centennial logo and will be
featured in advertising, media and merchandise denoting the 2011 event.
“This logo incorporates the
festive ribbon that spans from Denmark to America over the 100 years, the
incredible beauty of the mountains, vineyards, oaks and ‘sunny fields,’ as well
as the Danish culture with the windmill,” Janée said in a news release. “The
style is current but refers to the clean lines of Danish design.”
Mayor Jim Richardson and
Solvang Centennial Committee member Ed Skytt presented Janée with the $1,000
contest award in form of a large check.
In conjunction with the logo
debut, the official Solvang Centennial website, Solvang100.com, was launched as
a “portal” for all things Solvang and Solvang Centennial.
Public workshop information
will soon be posted to the website for upcoming events pertaining to the 2011
celebration.
