They’re back
The first Rec N Roll event held at the Solvang Veterans Memorial Hall proved to be a huge success. More than 500 people showed up to use the Vets’ hall floor as a roller rink. Parks and Recreation was able to hold the event, which grossed about $4,000 for Solvang and Buellton, because the hall’s floor is scheduled to be replaced.
Now the Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up to hold Rec N Roll II on Saturday. The event follows on the heels of the first rendition, to squeeze in one more roller derby before construction on the floor begins.
Everyone is invited, though Parks and Rec is reminding people floor space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Two sessions will be held on Saturday. The first for families with children 10 and under will run from 3:30-5:30 p.m. An all-ages skate takes place from 6-8 p.m. In order to give everyone a chance to skate, the floor will be cleared every hour and others will be allowed on.
Entry fees are $6 if you bring your own skates or are a spectator and $10 for entry plus rental. People are encouraged to bring their own skates and equipment because sizes are limited. There will be a concession stand and questions about the event can be directed to the Parks and Recreation Department at 688-PLAY (7529).

Spring exhibit on canvas April 3
Gallery Los Olivos will celebrate spring this year by exhibiting an exciting collection of works done on location by its artists. Spotlighting the celebration is a Featured Artists show in the front gallery, showcasing recent paintings by eight of the gallery’s artists, done on location in the regional area. The public is invited to a reception with the artists from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 3. Since 1992, the gallery has become known for its wide collection of art that includes plein air works, but has never staged an exhibit exclusively of works done on location. The Plein Air Celebration expands to the rest of the gallery where many of the gallery’s artists will exhibit plein air works. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of interpretations of the regional landscape. Just look for the small Plein Air Celebration signs throughout the gallery. Gallery Los Olivos was founded in 1992 and is an incorporated group of over forty (40) member artists from Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties. The gallery is located at 2920 Grand Ave. in Los Olivos. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and its number is (805) 688-7517. For information on the gallery and current exhibitions go to www.GalleryLosOlivos.com.
