Solvang School will be the site of a multi-genre music and art event on Saturday, Sept. 11. The Be Arts Smart! Music Festival returns with live music, food and fun for all ages.
The musical line-up on the main stage includes the Laura Sheleskie Band featuring Bear Erickson playing jazz, soul, blues and rock; The Grasshoppers; Mariachi Mexicanisimo; and the Gary Foshee Band. Up and coming musicians will perform short sets on a satellite stage. The young rock sensation Soul Mates performs at 3:45 p.m., Three’s Company at 4:45, and the Solvang Rock Band at 5:45.
The Festival takes place on the grounds of Solvang School from 3 to 7 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring a blanket or beach chairs for seating. Food booths will serve up a variety of tasty dishes and cool treats. There will be a chalk art area for artists of all ages and a playground.
Be Arts Smart! Music Festival is a Solvang School Education Foundation (SSEF) benefit to keep music & arts education part of schooling for all students at Solvang School.
In defiance of state and federal budget cuts, which often put kids at the bottom of the priority list, SSEF invites the community to join in declaring children’s enriched, multi-disciplinary education and development a top priority.
Festival admission is $15 for individual tickets; $40 for a family of four. Patron of the Arts tickets are $150. Tickets are available for advance purchase at The Book Loft, El Rancho Market, Santa Ynez Valley Coffee Co. and Valley Hardware in Solvang. Tickets will also be available at the Festival entrance gate the day of the event.
Festival sponsors include El Rancho Market, First Street Letter, Graphic Systems, Knight Broadcasting, Rhythms Coffee and Elite Events. For information about the Festival or sponsorship opportunities, contact Linda Burrows at 688-7423.
