Soul Mates, a seven-piece band of 10-year-olds, are helping keep music alive in our Valley and will be opening the “Not to Be Missed” fundraising Concert at Solvang School. “Starting With Encaustic” with Alissa Massey from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. In the morning different techniques will be explored. After lunch, you’ll create your own encaustic painting on a wooden panel. Solvang Library holding Fall Book Sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sale includes many nearly-new donated items as well as books recently cleared from the shelves. Tales From the Tavern in association with the Artist Advocacy Foundation presents Joan Baez Under the Stars at the Solvang Festival Theater at 7:30 p.m. The esteemed singer/songwriter series moves to the larger venue of the Solvang Festival Theater from its usual home at The Maverick for this presentation of the legendary folk icon in concert one night only. The Solvang concert promises to be a thrilling prelude to more Under the Stars concerts and presentations planned for the Festival Theater. Baez’s appearance in association with Tales from the Tavern also represents an expanded community experience for the highly regarded “troubadour” series as it steps up to the larger outdoor venue from the pin-drop, cozy confines of its home base at The Maverick Saloon and burnishes its reputation as the “must play” west coast showcase for America’s greatest singer/songwriters.
