The Santa Ynez High varsity basketball team dropped a close game Friday to Templeton, 64-58. Sophomore sensation Bobby Moir, up from the Pirates’ junior varsity, continued improving, scoring 15 points and grabbing a team leading nine rebounds. Dane Bolitho had a big game, leading all scorers with 18 points. He made strong drives to the basket and dished out five assists as well.
Zach Foss scored 14 points, while Connor Reck added 8 and Randy Brittain tacked on 3. “It was a hard fought game,” said coach Jeff Reck of the home loss. Santa Ynez leading scorer and rebounder, Wyatt Garley, was still out with a sprained ankle and could not play. He could be back for the last two weeks of the season, said the coach. The Pirates were slated to try again Wednesday night at Cabrillo. Results were too late for Journal deadline. On Friday, Santa Ynez hosts second-place St. Joseph.
Said Reck: “We’ll give them our best shot and get ready for the last two weeks of league play, when we’ll have a good chance of knocking off Morro Bay and the rest.”
