Free music

Danish born composer/songwriter Bent Myggen hosts free acoustic-style performances in Los Olivos every weekend, usually between 2-5 p.m. during the summer on 2885 Grand Ave., 50 yards from the flagpole.


On the lake

As of April 18, proposals were being requested to operate a concession providing various services at Cachuma Lake Recreation Area, 2225 Highway 154, Santa Barbara, CA 93105. The County of Santa Barbara/Parks Department is seeking corporations, businesses, or individuals to operate the following services: 1) A marina with rental boats, tackle shop, slip rentals and gas dock; 2) A snack bar/grill; 3) A cabin rental; 4) A park store; 5) A trailer rental; 6) A snack bar/grill located at the swimming pool area; 7) A Laundromat located at the swimming pool area; and 8) A video arcade located at the swimming pool area.

The request for proposals and a copy of a draft concession agreement can be viewed at www.cachuma.com. Proposals will be received in the Parks Department’s Administrative Office, located at 610 Mission Canyon Road, Santa Barbara until 3 p.m., May 27, at this date and time all proposals will be publicly opened in the Parks Department’s Administrative Office. A mandatory bidder’s conference will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Cachuma Lake.


Soul survivors

Soul Survivor Central Coast is hosting a youth meeting in Solvang from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Veterans hall. The event is free and open to all ages but aimed at kids from fourth grade through high school. On-site childcare will not be provided. The event will feature Mike Pilavachi and 22 youths from Soul Survivor United Kingdom. The band plays on

Local band The Low Down Dudes will be performing at the Music and Art Space of Santa Ynez, located at 3630 Sagunto St. in Santa Ynez at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free to all, the band plays all the favorites from the 1970s on up.


Keep on rolling

As the Amgen Tour of California rolls back into town on Friday, May 20, with Solvang hosting its fourth Individual Time Trial we need to put our best look forward when welcoming our guests. The event’s theme is “Welcome Back Amgen Tour of California.” The Solvang Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a window and storefront decorating contest leading up to race day. There will be prizes awarded on May 18 as part of the Third Wednesday activities.

Follow the yellow brick road to “The Land of Ahhhs” for the 22nd annual Santa Barbara Fair & Expo, April 27-May 1 at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. It’s a happy place that will put a smile on your face! – Action-packed Carnival Rides, Bewitching Fair Food and Enchanting Farm Animals await.

“Land of Ahhhhs” look-alike contest on opening day, Wednesday, April 27. Everybody who dresses as one of the characters from “The Wizard of Oz” will be admitted to the fair free. Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Dorothy, Glinda or Wicked Witch costumes will compete for best costume in the Kansas Dust Bowl.


Sign language

Local business community and public are encouraged to attend the Sign Ordinance Sub-Committee meeting taking place every other Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at city council chambers, 1644 Oak St. in Solvang through the month of May.
