Immediately prior to the first CIF match to be played on the newly renovated Santa Ynez High School tennis courts, the project – a joint venture between the Santa Ynez band of Chumash Indians and the Santa Ynez Valley Youth Recreation – was dedicated. Pirates’ athletic director Ken Frederickson extended warm thanks and a round of applause to everyone who helped make the project come to fruition. On hand were Veronica Sandovil and Teresa Sat of the Chumash Indian Foundation and Frank Kelsey, president of SYV Youth Rec, in addition to fellow board members Bob Voorhis, Todd Sorenson, Dough Reidy and Glen Jacobson, along with the Youth Rec. Queen, Heather Voorhis. Both the girls and boys tennis teams were on hand along with coaches, Jen Rasmussen, Larry Popkin and Walt Seemann.
