An event dedicated to man’s best friend drew hundreds Oct. 8 to Solvang Park. The 3rd annual Dogtoberfest celebration offered a day of canine fun, including a doggie costume parade, a talent contest and a wiener dog race. Dog owners participated in a contest at Solvang Park to win prizes for various categories, such as “Most Spirited Canine,” Best doggie singer,” “Largest adult dog,” “Best human howl” and “Best kisser.”

The pet parade, which began south on First Street, stepped off shortly after 10 a.m., featuring dozens of canines – large and small breeds – dressed in colorful and amusing costumes. The midday merriment also offered informational vendor booths, pet services, adoptable dogs, food and beverages, a bake sale and face painting.
